Version 23.0 Available
Version 23.0 is now available! I’ve updated a few games through March and April, as well as filled in some historical data points for other MMOGs. Also new to this version is Pirates of the Burning Sea. In addition, check out the new World of Warcraft chart with breakdown by territory.
Version 22.0 Available
At long last, the new version of my charts and analysis is now online! I don’t have numbers for every game, but there are quite a few updates, most notably to World of Warcraft, RuneScape, Dofus, Tibia, and NCSoft’s various titles. Also included are preliminary numbers for Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, Lord of the Rings […]
Update Coming Soon
The long-awaited update of my charts and analysis is almost complete, but I’ve been holding off pending NCSoft’s latest quarterly results. They should be coming out this week, or next week at the latest, but there’s nothing on their corporate website and I’ve received no response yet to my inquiries, so I don’t know when it […]
World of Warcraft Hits 10 Million
By now you’ve probably seen the announcement last week by Blizzard that World of Warcraft had passed 10 million active subscribers worldwide: 2.5+ million in North America, 2+ million in Europe, and approximately 5.5 million in Asia. WoW’s growth has been remarkable, but a look inside the data shows why this announcement was a bit of a […]
2006 Austin Game Conference Presentation
A copy of the PowerPoint presentation I gave at AGC is now available under Downloads.
Version 21.0 Available
Version 21.0 is now available! This version has updated subscriber numbers for several games, most notably World of Warcraft, several of SOE’s titles, and the recently launched Auto Assault. I’ve also expanded the mid-range chart a bit; eventually I’m going to have to implement a dynamic graphing system.
2006 Austin Game Conference Panel
I’m now scheduled to speak at the Austin Game Conference which runs September 6-7-8 in Austin, Texas. The topic will be “What the Market Research Tells Us - Where MMOs are Going and How Are we Going to Get There”, and in it I hope to provide a review of the research I have provided […]
MMOGCHART.COM in the News
The site is now getting more and more attention internationally. My data was featured in the March 2, 2006 edition of Dagens Næringsliv, a Norwegian newspaper, in an article about Funcom. In addition, I’ve received a copy of Mondi Virtuali: Benvenuti nel futuro dell’Umanità (Virtual Worlds: Welcome to the Future of Humanity), a wonderful Italian […]
May 20, 2006 New Scientist Article
This is a little late, but the May 20, 2006 issue of New Scientist magazine contained an article on MMOGs that reproduced a portion of one of my charts.
Version 20.0 Available
Version 20.0 is now available! This is a major update, with updated numbers for many games, most notably World of Warcraft, Eve Online, RuneScape, and most of NCSoft’s titles. I’ve also added three new MMOGs to the tracking data: Tibia, The Matrix Online, and Dungeons & Dragons Online. I’ve also removed the old subscriber data […]
Version 19.0 Available
Wow, okay, so it’s been a while. I updated my data last November, but for some reason the data never got pushed to the web site. I’ve temporarily released a new Version 19.0 with some of that data, going up to approximately January. I’m going to try to complete a fully revised set of data […]
Version 18.0 Available
Okay, after much delay, I’ve released Version 18.0 of my data. The update is not everything I wanted it to be, but it updates several subscription numbers and adds those of the French MMOG Dofus.
Version 17.0 Available
Version 17.0 is now up. This version reflects the latest numbers from NCSoft’s quarterly report as well as some other minor changes. Hopefully I will be able to get some additional data at E3 and I’ll be able to release a new version before the end of the month. See you there!
Version 16.0 Available
Version 16.0 is now online. I apologize for taking so long with this update; a lot is going on in the MMOG industry right now and I haven’t had the time to keep up with everything. The new version has revised data points for many games that may look a little unusual; you may want […]
April 2005 PC Gamer Article
The April 2005 issue of PC Gamer has an interview with me about my research and reporting, but I haven’t read it yet, so I can’t fully comment on it. However, they do have an interesting version of my own MMOG Market Share Chart, which sadly is already out-of-date. It also doesn’t include Lineage I […]
